In my 30+ years of experience marketing and selling warehouse systems, there are very few instances where someone has approached me to provide a racking solution before renting or buying a new warehouse. It has almost always been after the contract for the new property is signed.
I have always wondered why clients don’t approach us first and discuss with us; we could have helped them save a lot of cost. Most of you are not aware of new products in the market, which could help reduce the warehouse footprint; besides most companies and consultancies offer a pro bono service.
Years back, a client with electrical light fittings approached us to install a new racking system in their newly leased warehouse. He advised us that since there will not be any forklift movement as the products are not heavy, stacking will be done manually.
After the discussion, we advised him on long-span shelving with metal decking and height, which an average person could handle with a small ladder, which was installed within a month, and the client was pleased as always with our service.
Almost a year later, we received a call from the same client, which was not unusual for us, as we had a 99% repeat client rate due to our excellent service. He told us that he is planning to rent an adjacent warehouse and would like a similar setup there.
I went for a meeting, had a look at his existing operation in the first warehouse, and noticed that there was enough height to convert the existing system into a multi-tier G+1 system. I advised him against renting the new warehouse and prepared a layout showing how much we were able to optimize the existing space, and how much more CBM we have achieved, which was sufficient for him for the time being until his business expands further.
It helped him save money on rent, labour, and operational costs. He was so pleased he paid us immediately, not waiting for the 30 days we had agreed.
This is a very basic example of how we can help if we are consulted first. This was years back, now there are many more options, including automated systems which can further optimize space and streamline logistic operations.
At TrustX Sourcing, we don’t just source; we will help you choose the correct system that will save costs and make your logistics easier.
