Skilling@60: The AI Dilemma

Let me start with a pat on my back. I recently went through a skill development course on Generative AI. The course was gruelling for 2 days, 16 hours, with so much intake of information, it made me literally feel like an LLM myself. At the end of the sessions, I passed out with a certificate, which was good to have since I last received one in 1984. The world has changed so much since.

There are several reasons why I took this course. One, I wanted to learn and decode AI to understand what impact it will have on the future and the hype around it. And I can say with certainty, it will impact our lives in future and hype to some extent is real.

For some of us who are using AI these days, like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, we are barely scratching the surface. For example, did you know there are more than 570+ LLMs and hundreds more Agentic AI’s with verticals for each function, and the list is growing every day?

My biggest take was that Generative AI saves lots of time; what used to be done in days will now get done in minutes, so what saves time, saves cost and cost saved is your competitiveness. The sooner everyone understands this, the better off in a highly competitive world.

What do I plan to do next? I will go deeper into this and create a vertical that can be used in my business expertise to help businesses achieve real competitiveness, which includes:
Business Development
Marketing
Procurement & Sourcing
Logistics & Supply Chain

Last but not least, the hype around job losses. Many repetitive jobs will be lost, but over time, people will be reskilled and will be in the system again with better-paying jobs. However, critical thinking will be a must, as what you prompt is what you will get.

One scary part is humanoid robots, because if they are trained into the wrong things, it will be difficult to stop them. I never watched sci-fi movies, but I certainly will be living it.

This post is not AI-generated, so it may not be perfect, but then I am only human.
